Yesterday, the 28th, a new moon, an incredibly productive day for Edgar and I… We wait months accomplishing little, then it all happens in one day!  Such good energia, this new moon!
We started out early, meeting Edgar's old friend Dr.Augusto Villarrell Trevino at this office in Centro.  And what an office, books and awards/certifications covering the walls.   This Bolivian man, born in Tarata, an expert in Quechuan (Inca) culture.  He wants to preserve some Quechuan/Inca folk music (on video).  This in Tarata where we've cycled many several times.  A good video project, a terrific contact, as he teaches at the Universidad de San Simon (the largest in Cochabamba).
Then on to meet Mario at his THE SPITTING LLAMA, and, almost next door on Calle Espana, I got a beard trim with Ingrid (Edgar esperadoing).
Later, cycling, Edgar runs into Senor 'Ritchie' Gonzales (first name), another one of Edgar's old friends.  He wants us to help him purchase a bicycle.
After eating Carolina's food in our parque, I went on to Capressa (por cafee and postres).  Georgia was there at her MacBook.  She's involved in applying to Medical School in Colorado.  A remarkable young woman, Georgia, who's been volunteering at Ninos Valor (orphanage) for so many months!
While I'm parking Senor Fetes a Bolivian man comes into Capressa, as he's seen me before.  He speaks no English, so I give him our calling cards, plus a QUEMA GRASA!  NO PETROLIO! sticker.
I rush home to be there for Ana, but no Ana at 3P.M. Everything but this worked our perfectly on this new moon day, 280714=a '4' day in numerology.
I forgot meeting another of Edgar's friend, this outside of the Hypermaxi, on Juan de la Rosa.  He's just gotten a job with the local Government, and says to 'come on!' now we can do something…
That's how the Governments:  You get someone elected, you get a job.  Then you 'rip off' as much as possible before your el presidente loses power.
What a day…

Did you know that here in Cochabamba there are 18-year old girls who don't even know the Alphabet?  Does this matter?
I think education of both boys and girls Bolivia's greatest challenge!
What do you think?
H.

P.S.  And don't be offended by this news (Angelo), you'll be surprised to discover how low the U.S.A. rates academically in the world )considering math and science scores).    I think we're (the U.S.) is down something like 20th in the worldwide rankings.  We're (the U.S.) basically stupid, aggressive, and love to make war!  But, that doesn't mean Bolivia can't teach teenage girls the alphabet!

Think about these two:
It takes 10 million, that's MILLION forays into the countryside, this of worker bees in quest of nectar (from flowers).  Ten million of these trips JUST TO MAKE US ONE POUND OF HONEY!  We should bow down to honey bees!  And yet we're killing them!  GO TO THIS SITE (on the Internet) TO FIND OUT MORE:  http://www.pan-europe.info/aw/savehoneybees/
The black bumble bees here in Bolivia (at least) recycles human waste!  Thus, no need for toilets if you have these kinds of black bumble bees (Latin name?).
No need to cut down the Amazon forests to produce toilet paper, either.  Use a handkerchief you wash.  Some of people use rocks!
STOP USING TOILET PAPER!

Summer, here in Cochabamba, Bolivia, with the reversed-named months (for those of us raised in the Northern Hemisphere), accommodates us in a strange way as 'summer' cooler than 'winter.'
This is explained by the sun.  In 'summer' there are clouds for the rainy season, making it feel cooler.  In 'winter,' there are few clouds, and we get the strong rays of the sun (so near the Equator).
90% of all the touring cyclists from Europe come here (to Bolivia) in the winter, their summer (in Europe) -- for our 'winter,' really 'summer!'
So, even with the reversed-named months, we local Norte Americanos get what we're used to (cold in Deciembre)…
I'll bet no Bolivian has ever thought of this...?
H.

P.S.  Maybe this is the definition of paradox?

(Thinking:  Tutu!  Where are you now?  I need you!  Something is pointed at me!  Something, is gaining!)."
Note, this is called old age and approaching death (our 'shedding of the body').
Note:  Aaron Burr said, 'Die Gamely!' meaning go meet it, don't be afraid!  Ironically, after a life of adventure, surviving a gun battle, he died in old age, drifting away.

"Once near the Nam/Laos border, I saw the Mekong River rise up like a filthy monster, taking in the land in one gulp!  It swallowed rice paddies, villages, took cattle, entire forests.
Afterwards there was nothing, just miles of mud that hardened in the sun.  For weeks families squatted over what had been their homes, just staring at the mud!  Except when we bombed them, they forget about the war.
A local scout explained why these people settled so close to the Mekong, right in its flood path.  That knowing every year, generation after generation, their houses would be taken, villages obliterated.  He explained, 'We must allow river!'
Simon shook his head, 'Beware of logic!'"

pp.305:
"Friends left the City in droves exhausted by the death, decay and violence!"
Note, 'I' had to depart (circa  1976), because of a women, a women unique in her pursuit of me, ultimately driving me away, having to physically move from N.Y.C. to L.A.  I remember the night I departed, we stopped at a restaurant, the music about the City, having to go… This of course, synchronistic (a 'meaningful coincidence')!

The Boldivian/Spanish word for storm is 'tormenta!' From the English word, 'torment:'
Origin:
1250–1300;  (noun) Middle English  < Old French  < Latin tormentum  rope, catapult, torture < *tork w -ment-  (see torque, -ment); (v.) Middle English tormenten  < Old French tormenter,  derivative of torment  (compare Late Latin tormentāre )
In Nature an example of enantiodromia is a storm, when hot air hits cold air!  Mucho tormenta!  But, what happens afterwards... but calm.   Sometimes the reversal of things is violent!
Currently, in the world, violence/war moving to peace!

Giant crater found in Siberia near 'end of world': "Giant crater found in Siberia near 'end of world'

John Johnson, Newser 2:13 p.m. EDT July 16, 2014

It's tailor-made for crazy conspiracy theories: A big mysterious crater has formed in a part of Siberia known as the "end of the world," reports the Siberian Times.

Video of the 260-foot-wide hole has caused such a stir in the region that a team of Russian scientists was due to arrive today to try to determine its origins—and to debunk some of the wilder theories. (Think UFO landing site and weapons testing, notes news.com.au.)

A government spokesman in the Yamal peninsula asserts that the crater is not the result of a meteor strike, while RT.com lays out a geologic theory: It's possible that warming temperatures caused permafrost to melt and release natural gas in what one researcher likens to a champagne-cork effect.

Indeed, the region is rich in gas, and the crater is only about 20 miles from Russia's vast Bovanenkovo gas field."

11 killed, 60 wounded in Chicago 4th of July weekend shootings, report says - CBS News: "60 shot, 11 killed in Chicago 4th of July weekend shootings

CHICAGO - At least 11 people were killed and 60 others wounded citywide in shootings in Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend, reports CBS Chicago. There were also six police-involved shootings, two of which involved teens who were killed.

In the most recent fatal shooting, an unidentified 44-year-old woman was shot at a barbecue around 12:30 a.m. Monday in the city's Morgan Park neighborhood, according to the station. She was shot as she leaned into a car in a parking lot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"While to date we have had the fewest murders since 1963, one victim is too many and there is clearly much more work to be done," said police spokesman Martin Maloney.

At least 60 others were wounded in shootings throughout the holiday weekend.

"We will keep building on our strategy, putting more officers on the street in summer months, proactively intervening in gang conflicts," Maloney said, according to CBS Chicago. "Yet, even with the best police and the best policing strategy in the world, without better state and federal laws to keep guns off the streets and out of the hands of dangerous criminals, we'll continue to face an uphill battle."
Ross Rice, a security consultant for CBS Chicago, told the station the violence over the weekend speaks to a larger problem.

"I think it is representative of the gang, drug, gun violence problem that still persists in Chicago," Rice said. "It's not a law enforcement problem solely. There's not going to be a law enforcement solution to this. You can't arrest your way out of gang violence."

In addition to the other shootings, the station reports there were six police-involved shootings over the long weekend. Two of the people shot by police were teenagers.

Sixteen-year-old Warren Robinson was shot dead just three days shy of his 17th birthday, according to CBS Chicago. After being chased by officers on Saturday evening, he was found hiding under a car by authorities. Police said officers told Robinson several times to drop his gun as he was getting out from under the vehicle. He allegedly refused the command and officers said they shot him to defend themselves.

The boy's mother, Georgiana Utendahl, said her son was not armed. Some witnesses said Robinson kept his hands in the air the entire time, a claim that police refute.

"They shot him over twenty times," Utendahl told the station. "They are trying to say he had a gun on him and he didn't have a gun on him."

On Friday, 14-year-old Pedro Rios was fatally shot when he allegedly pointed a revolver at officers responding to a call of a person with a gun.

Rice said it is more difficult than people think for officers in these types of situations.

"I think there's a disconnect between people watching TV shows and watching movies, and it doesn't translate into real life for them," Rice told CBS Chicago. "They don't realize that the police can't shoot the gun out of your hand like they do in the westerns, or the police aren't going to be able to wound you, or they can't fire a warning shot. It's serious business."

The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating the police-involved shootings. The Chicago Police Department released a statement, saying, "Officers do not relish using a weapon in the course of their work, but... they must do what is best to protect themselves and the public they serve."

As of early Monday morning, the station reports no one was in custody for any of the weekend shootings."

'Shit!'
'Scat!' is where it's at!
'That,' is in the future!
Our favorite euphemism, 'scat' for 'shit!' People feel more comfortable with 'scat,' why?
Then someday even 'scat,' will be too much and changed to 'that!' which is…
We create our 'wor(l)ds' by the 'wor(l)ds' we use.  There is no objective existence.
Without us there (within hearing distance), there is no sound from the tree falling in the forest!  There is no tree.  In fact, there is no forest!

"The first time they had sex, Keo felt he would do anything she asked.  He would give her his trumpet, his lungs, his life, for more of her!  Weeks passed in a kind of demential.  They moved on each other with a scratched-itch ecstasy!  His kisses animal-mounting bites, him lathered and wetted in her vagina that felt like a slick rolled-up tongue sucking him to incandescence!"
We 'get sucked to incandescence,' everyday!  How 'bout you?

We think it reveals mucho about what kind of culture, depending of what kind of sport is worshipped!
In the U.S., brutal football, using arms and feet, and everything else.  As Vince said, 'Winning isn't the only thing, it's everything!'
In the rest of the world, soccer ('futbol' without using hands) is worshipped!  We have learned something about such, as here in South America, during the 2014, World Cup in Rio De J.   You can't escape the announcer's GOALLLLLLLOALLLLOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!  You would think Jesus has returned!

We're back at Villa Nayjama after a perfect morning ride out.  Because we're early we divert to upper Tiquipaya (sub. of Cocha.) and take fotographs of all the children's murals on their school walls.  Of course, there's a 'theme' no doubt decreed by the teachers.  So, all of it is about love, family, community, doing good, trust, integrity, and those values we somehow lose growing up (really 'down').  Fotographs at www.cyclingpeace.org/gallery/ the first album entitled, 'Tiquipaya School Art, winter, 2014.'
Afterwards, standing in the street, I respond to a cel tele. call, as I never stop to answer when moving.  Turns out it's Edgar about a BD party for 'Pepe.'  I'm confused as I thought for Anna's Carlos.  I had heard but nothing specific, and then in one afternoon, as good news travels fast, I hear about this party first from Edgar (the tele. call), then Roberto (at Nayjama's) then departing after lunch, I run into Teanna, who informs me as well, even with the correct time!
But, this kind of 'craziness' reminding me more and more of the country of Nepal!  This is not good news, as you can't get anything done in Nepal.  But, we'll see, as only a 'newlywed' (1.5 years) in Bolivia.   Maybe we can help develop, making education the #1 priority!   This is what Bolivia needs, education, mental growth -- ultimately 'conocimiento!'
For me, of course, there are positive things about living in 'Boldivia!'  The cost of living is low, like Nepal, but I wonder sometimes if you get what you pay for…?
If Denmark had mountains, I'd find a way to afford to live there.  Denmark/Copenhagen, quite possibly, the best country/city in the world!
Here in Bolivia, we've become a CASA DE BICICLETAS! ('House of Bicycles!').  I've decided to launch these around the world, in whatever the local language (for China: 自行车的房子!).
I love having lunch at Villa Nayjama on Saturdays (part of what's good about Cochabamba, Bolivia)… Beside Roberto's cooking, the setting in Tiquipaya, the ambiance:  quiet (most of the time), tranquil, Nature, the caged birds (singing) the dog, the ducks, the chickens, the swimming pool, Inti, Tunari in the b.g., the 'all of it,' wrapped up in two hours of sensual indulging!  The 'torte de chocolate' at the end, better than sex with 39 virgins (that is, if you're male)!  Muy rico!
I've learned one thing in my life for sure!  You can't rely on other human beings for happiness!  They're too unreliable!  Doesn't matter, mother-father, wife-husband.  Children the same!
At approaching 75-years of age I am a 'hombre viejo libre!'  And I joke for Edgar's benefit, the following always making him laugh:  HACHE, NO ESPOUSA, NO MUJERS, NO EL PERRO, NO EL GATO, NO EL NINO/AS!  NO ES PROBLEMAS!  You go right ahead and have 13 children on me!  I'm elated I never had any of my own!
Yo estoy feliz!

Can you remember, and describe, the 'Ten Best Days of your lives?'  Wouldn't the day you were born be considered 'won,' or 'knot?'
This idea from a novel by Adena Halpern entitled, THE TEN BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE!'
Thus, I've been trying to come of with ten of my own.  Again, we must count the day we were born as 'won!' Right?
I'll start with the day Michael McCallum gave me some mescaline on the way out to our (ABC Sports group) summer house in Port Jefferson, L.Is., N.Y.  This was way back something like 1970, when Beano beat us all at table tennis?  That's almost 45 years ago!  I couldn't stop running or playing that day, first on our rocky beach playing football, then on a raft, out in the Sound, with a young girl, chasing round and round until dizzy with delight.  Then on to the local school football field, feeling like I could fly!  I think I had sex with several of the women, but can't remember!  It took three days to recover from this Mad Mescaline Day!
Day #3:  The Day I met Rotraut Boyens, in Husum, Germany!   I think it was a Good Friday/Easter Weekend.  We disagree about the year, me thinking it was 2005, or 9 years ago!   Since, my greatest friend and Guardian Angel!
How 'bout you, your greatest 10 days?
No, not the two times I got married, I can't include them in the ten best days!  But, our long-term relationships (with each ex-wife) can now be concerned of great value (particularly with Dr. Cathy A. Rogers, some 50 years later).
But, my wedding days/nights… Ah, the first I was too young and too excited about the 'going all the way!'  The second, on the Oregon Coast, a lovely affair, with Rev. C. George Fitzgerald presiding (thanks C. George).  Afterwards, we snorted cocaine in our little honeymoon cabin and fucked our brains out!
Thank God, I've never had children of my own, but must cop to one abortion (way back in the days when it was still illegal).  Certainly, I can consider that abortion day in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of my Ten Worst!
Day #4, Maybe the day I was the first to cycle to Everest Base Camp on the North/Chinese side -- this at age 70!  I'll never forget seeing it hidden in 'her white bridal dress!'
Day #5  The day I saw The (U.S.'s) Grand Canyon.  I was six years old (1946 -- Bright Angel Lodge).  Since, I've always been fond of mountain lodges!
Day #6  The day I was initiated and became a 'celibate Taoist Monk-ey!'  The year I know was 2006, I was living in the Asura Buddhist Monastery, in Pharping (30KM south of Kathmandu).  The month, maybe April, the day I can't remember…?  But, Karma Sherpa might remember, as he officiated (initiated me into the Order).
You must have a few best days of your life, as well?
Willing, strong enough, to share with this group…?

Yesterday, after losing my filled notebook, I had my pannier bag resewed, as a mistake was made (I didn't understand what the seamstress was saying in Spanish the first time).
Something unpleasant, losing my notebook, and something pleasant getting the buckle on my pannier bag sewn properly.  This is Duality, both 'bad' and 'good.'  You can't have 'won' with the other!
I returned to the park bench where Edgar and I had eaten Carolina's lunch (like usual).  But I had, after giving Edgar, Soto's tele. #s, just not gotten the notebook back in my pannier.   This was some two hours later when I returned (after coffee and World Cup at Capressa).  Two hours too long as many people frequent this park, most just walking through, but many times the benches all full.
I went and told Mr. Red-shirt custodian (with good dog), I was offering a 100Bs. reward for the return of the notebook, making sure he understood nothing valuable in it, except informacion.  A man standing next to him suddenly got interested.  He asked what bench and what time, and I pointed saying 'I left it there on that bench, not remembering to put it in my bicycle bag.'  All we can do is try to make it up, when mistakes are made.
THE LESSON… BE MORE CAREFUL with these little material items (that I value)!
Be in the moment,
Not distant!
First Light on the Hill,
What a Pill,
Buen Dia!
Now, much later, same day, waiting in Plaza Principal for Edgar and a meeting with Beatrice Zegara (title, 'Vice Major' in English) -- something about a TV series.  I'm two hours early, after the pannier bag repair.
I have my boots shined for 20Bs (pesos, about $3U.S.).  I pass out my postcard and sticker (BURN FAT!  NOT GASOLINE!).
I sit down on a park bench in the sun.
I have my novel (THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES), but I'm more interested in observing the people.  There are two little Chalita girl beggars, dancing, singing and hustling.  There's a group of young people, waiting to be call for a police interview.   It's a lovely afternoon sitting in the sun, everyone seemingly in a relaxed mood.  But, the traffic around the Plaza, endless.  After an hour, I get up and push Senor Fetes around.  I'm looking to purchase a memory card, but this is the wrong area for such.
Finally, after going a bit stir crazy, I run into Edgar, who's 30 minutes early (unusual).  We decide to park and then have coffee at Cafe de Paris.  We switch to having hot chocolate, topped with too much whipped-sugared creama.
When time, we walk across the street to check in for our meeting.  Things have changed.  Now, we walk up to a waiting area that says 'PRESIDENTA' with a secretary and a guard (in uniform).  Inside her office it's large to befit such a title.  Beatrice, who we know, gets up for kissing and hugging all around.  With her is a man and woman.
We sit at the conference table, and discuss the project, a TV series.  Milton, is producing a documentary about Evo Morales.  He describes himself as a 'hippie,' (Beatrice indicates long hair), his favorite rock group (mine), PINK FLOYD!
They've got equipment.  He suggests Saturday morning, and 30 minutes for the TV program.  I listen.  The woman is all seriousness, making notes.  We agree to meet on Saturday, at 3P.M., at Milton's place.  Edgar knows where.  Meeting adjourned.
I cycle home, this in the dark.  But, I have my flashing light for the rear.  It's 9P.M., before I make my gate, sans notebook.  Damn!  When will I ever learn?  Never completely!

Now, it's just boring science!
We've lost our ability to imagine…
Imagine that?

P.S.  We've become robotic consumers of material things.  On the otherhand, if spiritual things 'purchased' not so destructive!   Not the bees!  They've got it figured out, adding much to our human lives, and they live generally without violence!
Note (from pp113:):  Interestingly, the moon strong enough to move oceans, and when she 'dies,' she is 'reborn' three days later.  We should dance when her face is bright, and rest when she's 'asleep.'
The Spanish say, the sun (Inta) 'enters,' and the sun (Inta) 'exits.'
